In 2017, Dustin and Stephanie Taljaard threw in the towel on their urban life and headed for the country. They packed up their busy schedules, bid farewell to friends and the hustle and bustle of The Mother City and took a chance on a beautiful but dilapidated property, which they found just 4 kilometers outside of the quaint village of McGregor, 15km from Robertson. A mere 2 hours from Cape Town. They called it Red Earth Farm.
Red Earth Farm consisted of nothing more than a 1900’s, cob built barn, which yearned to be transformed into a rustic yet romantic, wedding venue. Now under construction for not only weddings, it will house functions, barn dances, specialty dinners and so much more.
This is also home to a gorgeous 1941, South African Railway Caboose carriage. The delightful little Caboose has been restored to within an inch of its original self and further converted into a luxury 4 sleeper accommodation for guests. On the other side of the farm, the Taljaard’s have their own small equestrian development. Here, they offer livery to retired sport horses, riding lessons and beautiful relaxing outrides. The outrides take you onto the neighbouring working farms, surrounded by a valley of vineyards and stone fruit orchards.
Inspired by our young children, Finley and Jack, and the desire to nourish them with healthy chicken, we launched Red Earth Chicken in February 2021. Our free range chicken is so natural, it’s as if you’ve raised them yourself in your back garden. And that’s what Red Earth Chicken is about: quality and ethical free-range chicken that brings people together at lunch, dinner, and the braai.
Red Earth Chicken has a shop/collection point on Red Earth Farm, and we also do deliveries to McGregor, Robertson, Bonnievale, Ashton, Montagu Bredasdorp, Struisbaai & Napier.
